Port Loop developers announce new homes for waterside scheme

The team delivering the regeneration of Port Loop in Birmingham have teamed up architect Glenn Howells to bring a new range of homes to the waterside scheme.
Joint venture developers Places for People and Urban Splash have drafted in Glenn’s Digbeth-based team, which is responsible for some of the city’s most famous structures including the Rotunda, Paradise, Brindleyplace and the Custard Factory. Together, they have created the new homes known as ‘Brick House’, which will go on sale on September 21
The 37 mews properties include three and four bedroom homes in a mix of two and three storey designs.
Glenn Howells, who has also advised on the masterplan for Port Loop, added: “I’m passionate about Birmingham and I’m passionate about this development which brings a disused part of our city back to life.
“Our Brick House designs are an intended juxtaposition to the Town Houses already on site; we’ve used a traditional brick aesthetic to reflect the heritage of the area. Our team and the developers also had a shared consensus to surround the homes with green spaces – a shared garden and the Port Loop park – something inspired by communities in Denmark where children are known to be the happiest in the world.
“I hope we can replicate that here as more people move into this exciting new community.”
Port Loop is being delivered by developers Urban Splash and Places for People, alongside the charity, Canal & River Trust, and Birmingham City Council. Building on the launch of Brick House, plans are currently being put in place to launch a new social and cultural hub in 100,000 sq ft of former industrial space at Port Loop.
