Construction firm appointed for latest Port Loop homes

Building contractor Speller Metcalfe is supporting the delivery of the latest phase of Birmingham’s Port Loop development, constructing 37 mews houses at the new waterside neighbourhood.

Port Loop is being created through a joint venture between Urban Splash and Places for People, in partnership with Birmingham City Council and the Canal and River Trust, and once complete will see a total of 1150 homes created.

The 43-acre site is surrounded by the Birmingham Old Line and Birmingham Main Line canals and will also feature a range of commercial and green spaces and shops, alongside the newly-built Ladywood Leisure Centre which opened last month.

The properties are being built over a number of phases, with the first residents having already moved into the first phase of modular homes in August.

Speller Metcalfe has been appointed to the £8.4m Phase 1b of the project which includes the creation of 37 traditionally-built two and three storey townhouses, built across four terraces.

The collection of properties – known as Brick House – has been designed by Glenn Howells Architects, and will be a mix of three and four bedroom houses, each with two parking spaces and access to a vast shared garden.
