Plans being finalised for £200m leisure scheme

How the retail park could look

Plans are being finalised to develop a new £200m leisure scheme at Lion Farm in Oldbury, in a move which could create 2,000 jobs.

The scheme could include around 90 outlet shops, a 100,000 sq ft “interactive entertainment complex”, a multi-use community hub, a new Black Country Tourist Information Centre and exhibition space, two all-weather 3G multi-sport pitches, a cinema, a gym, a new hotel and around 2,500 car parking spaces – all on a site near the Lion Farm Estate in Oldbury.

A website by developer Jeremy Knight-Adams reads: “If approved, our plans will deliver around 2,000 new jobs as well as significant economic benefits for the area during the construction phase and when the scheme is open, along with facilitating additional new skills training and mentoring opportunities.

“Within the Community Hub, our proposals include dedicated space for an employment and training centre.

“In partnership with the Council, local colleges, and businesses, this centre will aim to open up pathways into employment and skills training for local people, ensuring that the community is at the front of the queue to benefit from new job opportunities.”

A planning application is expected to be submitted to Sandwell Council over the the coming weeks, but local groups have protested against the plans, which will see large parts of a playing field built upon.
