Jewellery Quarter residential scheme plans lodged

A new residential development on the edge of the Jewellery Quarter is hoping to get the green light by Birmingham City Council in the coming weeks.

The Lamp Works, which is being developed by Jewellery Quarter-based property developer Blackswan Property, is situated on Great Hampton Street and represents the next phase in Blackswan’s plans to regenerate the areas in and around Great Hampton Street.

The Blackswan team is also responsible for The Gothic and Gilders Yard, two other projects that have sparked the renaissance of the area.

The site has been designed by Jewellery Quarter-based architects BPN and is set to bring 129 apartments to the Jewellery Quarter, along with 10,000 sq.ft of commercial space.

As well as both residential and commercial space, the Lamp Works will feature courtyards, traditional shop fronts and public amenity spaces.

Richard Whitehouse, development director at Blackswan Property, said: “We’re delighted to bring The Lamp Works before the committee as it represents the immense collaborative effort between ourselves, the planners and the whole of the design team.

“We consider the Lamp Works to be the next piece in the ‘jigsaw’ for the transformation of Great Hampton Street, which fits with our mission at Blackswan to create unique buildings and destinations in and around Birmingham, with a strong focus on regeneration and heritage sites.”
