Retail centre plans revealed following land deal
A new local retail centre will be built at the heart of a housing development in Worcestershire following a land deal between two property developers.
Henry Davidson Developments (HDD) has acquired three acres of land at Yew Tree Village, in Droitwich, from Barberry Group in a deal worth £2m.
Birmingham-based HDD plans to deliver a convenience store and up to five retail units, subject to planning consent, for residents of around 500 homes being built nearby by Redrow and Taylor Wimpey.
In addition, LNT has secured a detailed planning consent to undertake the development of a 60-bed care home on the site. Construction is expected to begin later this year. The remainder of the site will consist of additional open market and affordable housing.
Barberry’s group director Martyn Cartwright said: “ Yew Tree Village has been many, many years in the planning and we’ve had to overcome several hurdles along the way. It’s therefore very satisfying to reach the point where we have been able to agree a deal for the final plot with a developer with a fine reputation for delivering retail-led mixed use schemes of the highest quality.”
HDD managing director Scott Davidson said: “This is a great opportunity to provide this new community in Droitwich with first class retail facilities alongside a high quality residential care home.
“We have acquired the site from Barberry who have done sterling work in creating the master plan for Yew Tree Village and bringing it to market. Respected national house builders are delivering a range of new homes and our development will complement and enhance this new community.”
In 2017, Barberry completed the sale of a 20-acre site at Yew Tree to Taylor Wimpey. It came 18 months after Redrow acquired 25 acres from Barberry at the adjacent site.
