Consultation starts on 670,000 sq ft national distrubution centre plans

Stoford Developments has launched an online public consultation following the announcement of plans for a new 670,000 sq ft national storage and distribution centre in Staffordshire.

Pets at Home has signed a conditional agreement for a 20-year lease of a proposed development on a 52-acre site at Stafford North Business Park, close to Jct 14 of the M6.

Stoford will deliver the scheme, which comprises a purpose-built warehouse unit of 620,000 sq ft and a three-storey office of 50,000 sq ft.

An additional 100,000 sq ft of expansion land will also be available, if required.

Plans include a new roundabout on the A34 Stone Road and a development access road serving the new warehouse unit.

Pending the outcome of the online public consultation, a planning application is expected to be submitted to Stafford Borough Council in September. Construction could start on site in 2021, subject to planning consent, with completion pre fit-out anticipated during 2022.

The proposal forms phase two of Redhill Business Park, which was developed following an £11m investment by Staffordshire County Council. Local occupiers include Iron Mountain, GE Grid Solutions, Screwfix, Culina, Saint Gobain and OMICRON.

Stoford joint managing director, Dan Gallagher, said: “We’re excited about the opportunity to deliver this modern, high-quality development on behalf of Pets at Home. Stafford North Business Park offers a superb central location, with excellent motorway connections and a host of household occupiers nearby. It has the potential to become one of Staffordshire’s key employment sites and will make a valuable contribution in sustaining jobs in the region and in attracting private sector investment during a challenging period for the local and national economy. We are keen to hear from residents and stakeholders and would like to encourage all interested parties to engage with our consultation.”

The online stakeholder and public consultation is now open and comments are welcomed for consideration before proposals are submitted in late September 2020.
