Contractor for £50m BTR scheme announced

The High Street Group has appointed construction group Metnor Construction to deliver a £50m build-to-rent apartment development in Birmingham.

The company will start on a 24-month build programme at Westminster Works in Digbeth later this month, with scheduled completion for Q4 2022.

The 220 build-to-rent apartment development will feature a mix of one and two-bedroom open plan apartments configured around a central courtyard, the eight-storey building will offer a concierge service, and residential gym along with car parking and cycle storage.

Gary Forrest, chairman of The High Street Group, said: “We are really pleased to reach an agreement with Metnor Construction to deliver Westminster Works.  Collaborating with other North East businesses is always welcome and I am looking forward to seeing the Westminster Works take shape and contribute to our Birmingham development portfolio.

“Birmingham presents a real opportunity for investment and development in high quality Private Rental Sector and mixed-use schemes that create long-term sustainable communities in the city and supports the wider regeneration and investment the area is experiencing.  We are very proud to be playing a part in the future of the city, creating much needed high-quality homes for local people.”

Chris Cant, Metnor CEO, said: “As a business we have been watching with admiration some of the amazing projects that The High Street Group continues to develop both in our region and further afield. It has been a major part of our growth strategy to become a partner with The High Street Group, and both our team and theirs have been working tirelessly over the past six months or so to make this happen.

“We have been incredibly impressed with The High Street Group’s professionalism and enthusiasm for the local economy and the built environment, helping create wonderful spaces for local communities and we are absolutely delighted and thankful to have been awarded this exciting scheme, which the whole Metnor Group will be actively engaged in delivering.”
