Plans revealed for 166-apartment Digbeth scheme

Plans have been lodged with Birmingham City Council to build a 166-apartments in Digbeth, designed by Corstorphine + Wright.
Developer 10M wants to demolish buildings on the corner of Bradford Street and Warwick Street and build a 6-8 storey residential scheme, called Sapphire Court, that would include 98 two-bedroom and 68 one-bedroom flat.
The site is currently occupied by the Sapphire Conference and Banquting Suite, an older brick building used by the conferencing and banqueting venue and Nisha Wear – a manufacturer of women’s clothing.
No private parking facilities are included in the plans, but space for 166 bikes is available.
A planning statement by the architect says: “The long term aspiration and ambition that is inherent
within Birmingham’s Big City Plan is reflected in the approach, rigour and quality of the design
“The parameters for this proposal are derived from the local context and aim to help stimulate the development quality surrounding the site
“The layout has been very carefully considered to maximise quality of life, through interaction and spatial configuration
“The arrangement of apartment types are designed to enable a broad range of occupiers to be
appropriately accommodated to create a more successful and sustainable residential community.
“From single, well-designed studio flats, to exciting two bedroom duplex apartments, the proposal seeks to offer a valuable experience in terms of welcome, interaction and comfort for residents and users of the proposed development
“The proposal makes a significant contribution towards the aims of the Big City Plan and helps reinforce confidence within the local developments through the quality of design”
