Golf club snapped up by housebuilder
North Worcestershire Golf Club has been acquired by Bloor Homes.
Harris Lamb Property Consultants acted on behalf of the North Worcestershire Golf Club to oversee the sale of the 83-acre site.
Bloor and NWGC have worked together over the last seven years to obtain planning permission for the redevelopment of the closed golf course to provide housing.
The original planning application was initially rejected by Birmingham City Council, before Bloor Homes successfully appealed against the decision, obtaining permission to develop 715 homes.
Harris Lamb’s planning team acted on behalf of NWGC and Bloor Homes.
As part of the development there will be a new urban park of around 35 acres.
Roger Adams, chairman of NWGC, said: “This has been a long and difficult project but we are delighted to have agreed a sale to Bloor Homes, who have worked hard with us over many years. It will be good to return to the site in years to come and see that it is being beneficially used by local families.”
Andy Lamb of Harris added: “Working collaboratively with Bloor Homes and NWGC we were able to bring forward this site for residential redevelopment. Without this approach, the site would still be fenced off and derelict. When we first agreed to promote this site on behalf of the Club and Bloor, we were hopeful that by this point we would have had finished houses for people to move into.
“There is a shortage of family housing in Birmingham, the development of City Centre apartments is all well and good but does not meet the needs of families. The local community will benefit from a new green space to be enjoyed by all, while local families in Birmingham can buy a quality home in an excellent location for local transport and amenities,” he said.
Jon White of Brookbanks Cost Consultants, acting on behalf of the club added: “This was a technically challenging site and we were delighted to have been able to help the club in agreeing a sale with Bloor Homes.”
Construction on site is expected to start later this year.
