Green light for major canalside student scheme

How the new scheme will look

Revised plans for over 520 canalside student flats have been given the go-ahead by Birmingham City Council’s planning committee this morning (September 30).

The Watkin Jones Group and Elliot Road Selly Oak Limited first submitted plans in January, but these were superceded by a 523-bed scheme designed by Glenn Howells.

The land, on Elliot Road, is currently occupied by units housing NHS patient records and a gym.

Glenn Howells took over as architect on the scheme from HLM Architects.

The plans were approved by the committee on a 9-1 count.
