Accountancy firm expands with acquisition

A family-run accountancy firm in Coventry has continued its expansion after acquiring an established local practice.

Shah & Co has taken over city neighbours Tucker Accountancy and Bookkeeping Services after its managing director Chris Tucker announced his retirement.

The Tile Hill-based practice will be incorporated into Shah & Co’s portfolio, making it one of the largest medium-sized accountancy firms in the city.

The acquisition sees Shah & Co continue its trend of acquiring small practices from retiring practitioners across the Midlands.

Its co-founder and director Haren Shah agreed the purchase with Tucker, who sought a buyer after bringing his retirement forward by a year.

Shah and his family moved to Coventry in 1973 following the expulsion of Asians from Uganda. He founded the business with his wife, Sonal in 1985, and expanded it with the help of his son Jay.

He said: “I have known Chris Tucker for many years and I wish the circumstances of this acquisition were different, but we feel extremely privileged that he has entrusted us with his clients.

“Our first job will be proving to our new clients that we offer an unrivalled one-stop accountancy service built on family values and cater for clients of different sectors and communities.

“As a medium-sized firm, we are able to provide the personal attention and fair prices that clients would struggle to find at large practices, and this puts us in an ideal position to provide services to businesses of all sizes.

“We provide support with financial planning for businesses and estates, auditing and bookkeeping services as well as guidance on business start-ups and taxation, and this latest acquisition is a signal of our intention to bring our services to clients of all backgrounds as we continue our expansion.”
