Lidl set to open Birmingham store

Lidl has revealed the opening date for its new store in Birmingham.

The supermarket on Old Walsall Road in Hamstead will open on 4th November.

It will replace the current one on the same road, which will now close on Wednesday 3rd November at 6pm.

Part of the discounter’s £1.3bn investment in its expansion across Great Britain in 2021 and 2022, the new store will retain all of the existing colleagues from the previous Old Walsall Road store as well as creating nine additional roles.

The new Lidl store has been completed by Midlands-based developer Deeley Construction.

Lidl GB’s regional head of property, Iain Ross, said: “We would like to thank all those who have played a part in bringing our new store to Hamstead. It is great for us to be able to deliver an improved shopping experience for residents and we look forward to delivering even more of our high quality and affordable produce to the local area.”

Managing director of Deeley Construction, Martin Gallagher, said: “This is the latest in a line of developments we have delivered under the Lidl contractor framework and we are pleased to be strengthening our partnership with the major national retailer. Deeley Construction has a proud history of delivering purpose-built projects of this type. There was a clear demand for a larger store in the area. It’s wonderful to see it now open and welcoming customers. It will be of great benefit to the community – especially with the store creating new jobs locally too.”
