Plans in for major mixed-use Digbeth scheme

The plans could transform a major part of Digbeth

Plans for hundreds of new homes and a masterplan including a new business and community hub in Digbeth have been submitted to Birmingham City Council.

Dandara first revealed the plans last July, with a dual planning application being received for a scheme called Warners Fields which would include up t0 3,000 apartments, flexible workspaces, restaurants and retail.

The scheme will be on land next to Moseley Street, Lombard Street, MacDonald Street and Barford Street.

Dandara wants to make the River Rea the centrepiece of the scheme with bicycle lanes and public space either side of the waterway.

The initial phase of 1,351 flats, available to rent, will be managed by Dandara Living and will also include business start-up hub called the Henry Bradford Centre – a nod to the 18th Century landowner who helped establish the area as a centre of trade.

The scheme is being designed by Glenn Howells Architects.
