Plans in for 370-home scheme in Worcestershire

The land off Whitmore Road in Bromsgrove where Bellway is seeking permission to build 370 homes

Housebuilder Bellway has submitted a planning applicaiton to build 370 homes on a newly-acquired parcel of land in Bromsgrove.

The housebuilder is seeking permission from Bromsgrove District Council for the scheme on land off Whitford Road at the western edge of the town.

Outline planning consent is already in place for up to 490 homes to be delivered on the 42-acre site, having been granted in February last year.

The proposed 370-home development will feature a mix of one- to five-bedroom properties, including 148 affordable homes.

A large area of public open space accounting for 10 acres of the site, including a children’s play area will also be created at the western edge of the development.

If Bellway’s plans are approved, construction work could start on the site in the autumn with the first homes completed early next year.

Dan Forrester, land director for Bellway South Midlands, said: “Our plans will unlock the potential of this undeveloped land to deliver a wide range of much-needed new homes for Bromsgrove and the surrounding area. There will be a mix of property types to meet different needs, from one-bedroom homes available through rent or shared ownership to five-bedroom detached family houses.

“Subject to planning approval, we look forward to starting work on site later this year and creating a high-quality residential neighbourhood for the town.”

Bellway has agreed a Section 106 agreement worth over £4m. Contributions will include £725,753 for high school education, £648,418 for first school education, and £518,918 for sustainable infrastructure.
