Reconomy wastes no time on acquisition spree with deal for training provider

Waste management specialist Reconomy has acquired a Birmingham-based training services provider that is set to expand the firm’s social value programme.

Webb Training Services has a network of training centres across the West Midlands, providing more than 50 courses on health and safety, construction, plant operation and first aid.

One of the UK’s leading providers of waste management services, this is Telford-based Reconomy’s fifth acquisition in the last 12 months.

Reconomy Group works with thousands of businesses, from SMEs to blue chip firms, helping them manage resources and deliver their sustainability objectives. With Webb Training Services on board, the firm is set to boost Reconomy’s Recycle division, supporting initiatives to find routes into employment for people from hard-to-reach backgrounds.

Mike Benton, operations director at Reconomy Group, said: “Training and development are of paramount importance to us and we recognise the skills challenges being faced by our core sectors.

“As the UK continues to build back following the pandemic, we believe that Webb’s will be a great addition to the group and further enhance our offer to customers, while also allowing us to accelerate our commitments as part of the Reconomy social value programme.”

Irwin Mitchell corporate partner Emma Callow and associate Matt Smith advised Reconomy on the deal for an undisclosed sum.

Smith said: “It’s been a busy 12 months for Reconomy and it’s a pleasure to support them once more on this latest addition to the group.

“Reconomy has already underscored its growth plans in the waste management sector with the arrival of Casepak. With Webb’s Training Services now on board, the group has all the tools it needs to deliver its market ambitions and on its wider commitment to its social value programmes as part of a wider post-pandemic recovery plan.”

Other recent acquisitions by the company include Eurokey Recycling, Advanced Waste Solutions, Nationwide Services Group, Waste Source and Casepak.
