Developer launches mixed-use canalside scheme

Berkeley St Joseph has announced the launch of a new mixed-use development in Birmingham’s Eastside.

The canal-side development, named Glasswater Locks, is located in the heart of Birmingham’s Learning Quarter, close to the city centre and the upcoming HS2 Curzon Street railway station.

It will feature 716 one, two and three bedroom apartments and duplexes across seven blocks, alongside 20,000 sq ft of commercial space for local businesses and amenities.

Mark Evans, partner, regional residential development at Knight Frank, said: “The Birmingham Market analysis report outlines the boom the city is experiencing in terms of population growth, relocation of high profile employers and investment from companies such as Berkeley St Joseph.

“The projected population growth of 5% in the next 10 years proves that Birmingham is continuing to boom and as demand grows, the property market is reflecting that.

“With continued expansion from office occupiers in recent years such as HMRC, BT Group and HS2, our research shows this trend is set to continue with a higher than average employment growth rate of 10% between 2020-2040 – it is certainly a great time to be investing in the city.”

Marcus Blake, regional managing firector at Berkeley St Joseph, said:  “Glasswater Locks symbolises the next step in Berkeley St Joseph’s ambitious long-term vision for Birmingham and the wider Midlands to continue delivering high quality developments.

“With five universities located in Birmingham and a growing number of businesses looking for new talent, there is a real market of professionals and graduates looking for quality homes in the city. Glasswater Locks will serve this increasing demand and will allow residents to easily integrate their work, home and social lives.”
