Developer unveils plans for disused Birmingham site

Developer HBD has revealed plans for its latest project in Birmingham, which will see the transformation of the former Sytner car garage.

The proposed scheme, called Neighbourhood, comprises 420 apartments alongside a double-height winter garden and new public space.

The developer has shared its plans at a consultation event, where the team revealed its vision for Neighbourhood and asked the local community for feedback on the proposals.

The final day of the consultation takes place today.

Simon Raiye, director at HBD, said: “This is a fantastic site and an important gateway into the city’s historic Jewellery Quarter – our proposed scheme will completely transform the area, creating an exciting new development that has been designed for everyone to enjoy; residents and visitors alike.

“Along with 420 high-quality new apartments across a collection of new buildings, we will have a carefully curated selection of independent cafes and restaurants which will be clustered around a new urban garden. We are looking to create something really special which is full of character and complements the surrounding area with place making and community at its heart.”

HBD acquired the 2.6-acre site in April 2021.

Neighbourhood has been designed by architecture practice BPN Architects, along with re-form Landscape Architecture, a team focused on creating sustainable places.

Subject to planning permission being granted, HBD hopes to start work on site in Spring 2023.
