Development partner selected for £450m regeneration of Coventry’s city centre

Shearer Property Group (SPG) has selected The Hill Group as its development and funding partner for City Centre South scheme in Coventry City Centre.

The £450m mixed-use regeneration scheme by SPG will work alongside the council to submit a detailed planning application and expects to begin work on the site during the summer of 2023.

Following Coventry’s success as the UK City of Culture and a host city for the Commonwealth Games this summer, more than £750m has been invested in the city.

Developments such as the upgrade of Coventry railway station, an indoor waterpark and the first phases of the Friargate district.

Andy Hill, group chief executive of the Hill Group said: “We are delighted to have been selected to deliver a vibrant new district in this historic part of the city. Our experience in urban regeneration and expansion will enable us to provide an inspirational destination that appeals to residents and visitors alike.

“From my first visit, I was overwhelmed with the ambitions for this city, and excited by the prospect of delivering the missing ingredient – new high quality homes that bring living back into the heart of Coventry.”

Guy Shearer of Shearer Property Group said: “After an extensive selection process for a residential partner, we are delighted to be supporting the council in partnership with Hill, who have a complementary skill set to ours. They are a stand-out private organisation with a superlative track record in designing and building a quality residential product.

“City Centre South is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for a top 12 UK city to deliver a game-changing project which will bring about the long-anticipated renaissance of a great city.”

Councillor Jim O’Boyle, Coventry City Council’s cabinet member for jobs, regeneration and climate change, said, “This news is another important step forward for the City Centre South regeneration plans. Our city centre needs investment to ensure it can thrive as the way people want to use and enjoy city centres changes.”
