The ex-Beatties car park and Gorgeous nightclub will make way for the SSYS Beatties development on Skinner Street, with Gorgeous being relocated.

The move follows last year’s announcement that property investment firm SSYS Beatties will redevelop the former Beatties department store into 306 apartments.

First opened by James Beattie in 1877, SSYS Beatties bought the building in February last year for £3m and will retain 73,000 sq ft of retail space across seven units.

Councillors have said the new scheme is a “welcome addition to the city centre”.

St Peter’s councillor Qaiser Azeem added: “City centres across the country are going through a transition, as a lot of businesses have moved online.

“This changing nature of city centres has brought many retail outlets and new build developments to Wolverhampton city centre.”
