Farmfoods checks in to retail park

A job creating retail park development in the Black Country is fully let after a deal was signed with frozen food chain Farmfoods.

The retailer has signed a 10-year lease on a new 20,600 sq ft retail warehouse at Birchley Island Retail Park in Oldbury.

Farmfoods is currently fitting out the new unit, which it expects to open by the end of May 2023.

Birchley Island Retail Park was opened in May 2022, following Hortons’ redevelopment of the former Oldbury Toys ‘R’ Us site, off Wolverhampton Road near Junction 2 of the M5.

The new multi-let retail park is already home to a JD Gyms, Swim!, B&M, McDonalds and a standalone Tim Hortons drive-thru restaurant.

An EV charging hub has also been installed on the site, which will be accessible to occupiers, customers and the wider community from Q2 2023.

Richard Walker of Hortons said: “Farmfoods completes a strong occupier line-up at Birchley Island Retail Park and our successful transformation of the site. The retail park is well located at a busy junction benefiting from high traffic flow and accessible to a large catchment area. It is very popular and all our tenants report higher than expected trading levels.”

Simon Smith, director of retail and leisure specialist, Wright Silverwood, said: “We are delighted to have been able to help Hortons’ Estate with the leasing of this new retail park development. It’s great to see the final piece of the jigsaw in place.”
