Law firm Shakespeare Martineau has welcomed new partner Julia Rosenbloom to its Birmingham private client team, specialising in tax.

With more than 20 years post-qualified experience, she has joined Shakespeare Martineau after a decade at Evelyn Partners (formerly Smith & Williamson), where she was most recently a private client tax partner focused on owner-managed businesses, real estate, international and complex high net-worth individuals.

During her career, Rosenbloom – who is also a qualified chartered tax adviser, and trust and estate practitioner – has worked in both law and accountancy firms, and has been named a top trust and tax adviser in The Spear’s 500 private client guide for the past four years.

She said: “I am really excited to be joining such a well-respected law firm in order to help grow and develop its tax function. I am triple qualified as a solicitor, chartered tax adviser, and trust and estate practitioner. As such, I am well-placed to offer support to colleagues across the firm and their clients, as well as offering tax advice to new clients of the firm.

“Shakespeare Martineau has an excellent reputation, particularly in relation to private wealth, and a strong Midlands presence. Being part of the firm’s Ampa group and its ‘house of brands’ strategy offers significant commercial advantages over other professional services firms. I feel privileged to be joining a fantastic private client team and I am looking forward to helping to strengthen our private client offering as part of the firm’s wider strategy.”

With a deep knowledge of business exits, succession planning and corporate reconstructions, in her new role, Rosenbloom will be helping to grow and develop Shakespeare Martineau’s tax team, while also providing tax support to existing and new clients.

Julia, who will primarily be based at the firm’s Birmingham hub but will be working with clients nationally, said: “Tax was not part of the plan when I started my legal training contract. However, ultimately, I found myself attracted to the technical and problem-solving aspects of the subject. It requires a good understanding of various commercial and legal matters and when everything comes together, it is incredibly satisfying.”

Worcestershire based accountancy firm Ballards continues to expand with five new hires across its Business Services, Corporate Tax, Audit and Accounts and Private Client departments.

Since the beginning of the year, growth has remained a key focus for Ballards, which has been supported by its subsidiary company, Four Squared Recruitment.

Business services partner Ben Allman said: “We are excited to welcome our new hires to Ballards. Each of them brings a unique set of skills and experiences that will further strengthen our business as a whole.

“As we continue to grow and evolve as a firm, we are committed to investing in exceptional talent that will help us deliver the highest level of service and support to our clients.”

The firm has also recently made six promotions including Will Culwick and Alexandra Moore. Will and Alexandra have both been promoted to the position of Account Managers, having joined Ballards via the graduate scheme in 2016 from Exeter University and Cardiff University respectively.

The graduate scheme offers a fully funded study package, making it an attractive opportunity for university graduates seeking to train to become a Chartered Accountant whilst carrying out a full-time role within the sector.

Sarah Stevens, HR director, said: “I would like to extend my congratulations to all the recent promotions at Ballards.

“At Ballards, we recognise that progress and career development are paramount to fostering a positive and motivated workforce. We are proud to provide our employees with a fair and scalable work environment that promotes growth and development.”
