House of Fraser store closure confirmed

House of Fraser has revealed it will close its Solihull store, a move which brings its branch portfolio down to 31.

The British department store giant confirmed the branch in Mell Square will shut on Monday, August 28 as it looks to focus on its Sports Direct and Flannels brands.

Eight House of Fraser sites have disappeared from high streets already this year, with at least one more to follow after August. Since bought out of administration by the Mike Ashley-owned group, stores have almost halved from 59.

The next closure to follow Solihull will be a branch in Guildford which will close on Saturday, September 30.

A spokesperson for Frasers Group said: “It is with regret that we announce House of Fraser Solihull is planned to close this month.

“We would like to take this opportunity to thank our staff for their hard work and dedication.

“Where possible, we are committed to finding new roles within the group for all staff.”
