Approval granted for new police headquarters in Dudley
Dudley council planners have approved the establishment of a new police headquarters.
West Midlands Police has received a change of use certificate for Castlegate House on Castlegate Way, originally designated as offices. The building is set to accommodate approximately 422 staff and will feature a public-facing desk.
As part of this development, the existing police station building in Brierley Hill will be put up for sale.
However, neighbourhood teams will persist in their presence in the area, relocating to a new site.
The new development marks the return of a police station to central Dudley, filling the void left by the closure of a previous station in 2017.
A report presented to council planning authorities stated that the change of use was acceptable because the building would predominantly continue as offices. Officials clarified that the absence of cells in the new headquarters and the nature of the change of use would have a modest impact on the surrounding area.
