Aparthotel opens its doors after regeneration scheme

A 161-bed aparthotel has opened at Birmingham Snowhill after an extensive regeneration project.

SevenCapital acquired the Royal Angus Hotel in 2020 and has transformed the building into a serviced aparthotel made up of 84 studios, 71 one-bedroom and 6 two-bedroom apartments across nine floors.

It appointed Switch Hospitality Management to manage the asset, which has added to the firm’s growing asset management portfolio, which includes flagship hotel Park Regis Birmingham, Holiday Inn Express Birmingham South and the re-opening of the fully refurbished Nite Nite hotel in Central Birmingham.

Upon opening, the site was awarded an EPC rating of “10 A”, where “0 A” indicates net-zero carbon emissions. This rating has positioned aparthotel Birmingham as one of the city’s most sustainable commercial developments, producing lower emissions than the industry average ratings of “17 A” for new builds and “68 C” for existing stock.

A £13.5m loan was provided to SevenCapital by Pluto Finance in November to fuel the regeneration scheme.

Ehatshum Chowdhury

Ehatshum Chowdhury has been appointed as the general manager, bringing more than 10 years’ hospitality experience following senior management positions at luxury resorts and leading hotel brands across the UK.

Most recently, he was responsible for overseeing the operations of multiple Premier Inn sites in Cheshire, which followed his role as general manager for the flagship Aparthotel by Roomzzz in York.

Ehatshum said: “With a passion for delivering the same gold-standard of service that Switch Hospitality is renowned for, I am excited to bring my experience to aparthotel Birmingham, which is set to become the go-to destination for anyone visiting the city.

“I look forward to working closely with the team to create the very best ‘home-away-from-home’ experience for guests, whilst offering all the luxuries of a five-star hotel.”

John Angus, managing director of Switch Hospitality, which is managing the site on behalf of the owner, SevenCapital, comments: “Our ambition is for aparthotel Birmingham to become an industry-leading asset, combining a modern, highly sustainable design with exceptional service, where we have the ability to adapt to evolving guest demands.

“It is fantastic to have Ehatshum on board to support this vision. His previous managerial roles will be invaluable in ensuring we deliver the very best guest experiences at every touch point, whilst maximising returns for the asset owners.”
