Council acquires Guildhall shopping centre

Stafford Guildhall

Stafford Borough Council has acquired Guildhall shopping centre with help from law firm Anthony Collins.

Approved late last year, the purchase of the shopping centre is part of the Council’s broader plan to transform the town centre, which includes refurbishing the market square, enhancing the town centre gateway, and acquiring the former Co-op department store.

The acquisition of the Guildhall shopping centre is expected to contribute to the revitalisation of the high street by introducing a mix of commercial and residential properties. This move aims to support the community, create employment opportunities, and stimulate economic growth in the area, with assistance from the Future High Streets Fund.

Anthony Collins provided support throughout the acquisition process, handling aspects such as procurement, planning, and tenant engagement, enabling Stafford Borough Council to advance its goals for the town centre.

Emma Lloyd, a partner in the property team at Anthony Collins said: “Being a part of breathing new life into a local high street has been extremely rewarding, especially when many councils are facing tough decisions. Our commitment to supporting Stafford Borough Council on this momentous feat has been shown through the quick transaction delivery, from approvals granted through to purchase completion. As part of securing the site, we ensured any challenges relating to procurement, planning and construction were handled promptly, enabling a smooth acquisition.”

Consultants also involved in the acquisition site included Lambert Smith Hampton, Tetra Tech and Fisher German.
