450 homes get the green light in inner city Birmingham

Approval has been granted for a 451-home complex consisting of seven tower blocks on the site of former railway sidings in Birmingham.

Rochda is now set to build seven residential blocks between five and nine storeys on land at Great Western Close, near Western Business Park, comprising 186 one-bedroom, 243 two-bedroom and 22 three-bedroom units.

The project in Winson Green has built on previously approved plans for 310 homes in 2021.

Great Western Close proposes ground-floor apartments, some with private garden areas, while those on upper levels will feature private balconies. Additionally, the development will incorporate private open spaces for residents and a public children’s play area.

It’s proposed a 6% provision of affordable housing to be delivered on-site through a Section 106 agreement. This would be split between “First Home” Units (25%), discounted at 30% and Affordable Rental Units (75%), again discounted at 30%.

151 parking spaces have been proposed and 10% of spaces will have EV chargers. Each home will have one cycle space.
