West Midlands firms urged to get export advice

WEST Midlands companies are being urged to beat the economic downturn by discovering the secrets of the UK’s top exporters at a series of free events around the region.

UK Trade & Investment – the Government body that supports British companies trading internationally – is holding five breakfast seminars next month for any West Midlands firm interested in developing its export business.

Entitled Keys to Export Success, the events, which all run from 8-11.30am, will feature leading UK exporters talking about their successes and mistakes. Dates and venues are as follows:

•    March 2: Park Inn Hotel, Telford;
•    March 3: Sixways Stadium, Worcester;
•    March 9: Birmingham & Solihull Chamber of Commerce and Industry;
•    March 10: Coventry & Warwickshire Chamber of Commerce; and
•    March 30: Ramada Hotel, Cannock.

Businesses attending will be offered advice on increasing exports, including how to select the best market for their particular business, maximising overseas enquiries and sales, avoiding cultural clashes, cutting down on paperwork and getting paid quickly.

Doug Mahoney, International Trade Director for UK Trade & Investment in the West Midlands, said: “This is an invaluable opportunity for firms of all sizes across the region.

“Whether they’re new to exporting or seasoned exporters, these seminars will give them practical, hands-on advice to help them boost their international business.”

To book a free place at the events, firms should visit: www.chamberinternationaltrade.co.uk or email p.mccarron@wmcc-llp.co.uk or telephone on 0121 607 1751.
