Coombe Abbey taken into Akkeron’s portfolio

AKKERON Hotel Group has signed a new support services contract for upmarket hotel Coombe Abbey near Coventry.

The Surrey-based firm will be providing services such as marketing to the 12th century Cistercian Abbey turned hotel in Binley.

The deal does not represent an acquisition and Coombe Abbey Hotel, which has 119 rooms, will continue to be owned by Coombe Parks.

This contract increases the number of hotels in Akkeron’s portfolio to 37, employing 1,630 people and with a combined annual turnover of over circa £60m.

Akkeron said it had plans to grow its business into the leading provincial UK hotel company with a portfolio of up to 150 regional hotels across the UK.

This latest contract follows the announcement in December that it had acquired Forestdale Hotels, a group of 18 three-star regional hotels, and 10 sites from Butterfly Hotel Group in February.

Akkeron said it was well capitalised, with long-term financing in place, and that it continued to work on an “aggressive acquisition pipeline” to increase its portfolio over the coming year.

Managing director Matthew Welbourn said: “We are delighted to welcome Coombe Abbey into the portfolio.

“With the addition of the hotel to Akkeron’s distribution network, we will work together to grow revenue to both the business as a whole and to the growing estate.”
