Property project boosted by £6.5m grant

A PROPERTY development project to build more than 300 new homes in Shropshire has been boosted with the award of a £6.5m government grant.

The Homes and Communities has allocated the money to Wrekin Housing Trust to build 322 new properties over the next four years, part of a wider scheme which will see it develop around 1,000 new houses.

It is the latest announcement on the wider ‘Affordable Homes Scheme’ from the HCA which earlier this month revealed it had signed a deal with Waterloo Housing Group to build 1,600 new homes across the Midlands in a £39m package of grants.

Wrekin is the first housing trust in Shropshire to enter into a contract with the HCA.

The funding will allow homes in rural areas to be built alongside purpose built accommodation for older people and the development of brownfield sites.

Nicola Marshall, head of Midlands West at the HCA, said: “This agreement is great news as it will see much-needed new homes delivered across Shropshire and Telford and make a significant difference to the local communities in which we work.”
