Morgan’s mission at MTV music studios

WARWICKSHIRE construction firm Morgan Sindall is renovating music channel MTV’s studios in North London.

The Rugby-based company has won an undisclosed deal to transform the site in Camden Lock from the channel’s parent company Viacom International Media Networks UK.

It will be creating new studios and 35,000 sq ft of new and refurbished office space.

The project has been designed by London architects Jacobs Webber and also features a solar shading system and a ‘green’ wall, created with specialist input from Kew Gardens.

A remodelled atrium with enhanced use of glazing and skylights is also included in the plans which are due for completion next December.

The project involves the decommissioning of two of the four existing studios, with the remaining two studios continuing as normal.

The canal-side complex was designed by award winning architect Sir Terry Farrell who, in 1981, oversaw the conversion of a 93,000 sq ft garage into the headquarters of TV-am.

VIMN UK, then known as MTV Europe, took over the building in 1993.

Peter Jacobs, construction managing director of Morgan Sindall, said: “We welcome the opportunity to use our skills and capabilities at one of the best known buildings in North London. It’s a pleasure to work with the project team and a client that is a true giant in global entertainment.”
