Former CBRE chief launches new property venture

THE man who launched the Birmingham office of CBRE and advised on some of the city’s biggest development projects has launched a new property consultancy.
Julian Shellard has teamed up with Peter Burford to found Shellard Burford Consultants, advising companies and individuals on property investment, land banks and development portfolios.
The pair have known each other for three decades and worked together for the past two years as consultants to the Birmingham office of consultancy Lambert Smith Hampton.
Mr Shellard was previously managing director of CBRE regions, looking after individual office managing directors, including Martin Guest in Birmingham, and more than 400 surveyors throughout the UK.
He was responsible for establishing the original Richard Ellis office in Birmingham, which went on to become CBRE, having worked in London for nearly 20 years.
Mr Shellard spent 34 years with the business, before retiring in January 2009, and advised on projects such as Brindleyplace, Victoria Square House, 125 Colmore Row and the redevelopment of Snowhill.
Mr Burford was a partner in Grimley JR Eve, now GVA, before moving into property development.
He continues to act for a number of companies throughout the Midlands, including Tesco, BBC Transmissions, Severn Trent and Yorkshire Bank.
Shellard Burford will operate in Birmingham, Oxford and London.
Mr Burford said: “Julian and I have enjoyed working together over the last two years and it makes obvious sense to combine our extensive contacts and experiences for the benefit of those companies in need of a confidential and dedicated service.”
