Major new housing development for South Staffs

REGENERATION specialist St. Modwen Properties has unveiled plans to develop 142 acres in south Staffordshire with new houses and a school.

The Birmingham-based plc has submitted plans to Cannock Chase Council to build up to 700 homes, a new primary school and 75 acres of open public space next to Pye Green Road, in Hednesford.

It is anticipated around 1,000 jobs will be created in the construction of the project which will also include shops and community facilities.

The primary school will provide 30 places per year group, to cater for children generated from the new development.

Subject to planning approval being granted early next year, work is expected to begin on site in spring 2013.

Despite its proximity, this new project is unrelated to the St. Modwen’s ‘Hednesford Gateway’ to build a new town centre and 80,000 sq ft Tesco store.

Senior planning surveyor Mike Timmins said: “The creation of this major development at Pye Green will bring social, educational and environmental benefits to Cannock and address the town’s shortage of housing, particularly family homes.

“The scheme will deliver significant levels of inward investment, including more than 1,000 jobs created by the construction of the development as well as staff required at the new school and local centre.”
