Crossrail contract win worth £29m for Morgan Sindall

WARWICKSHIRE construction firm Morgan Sindall has been awarded a contract on the £110m Whitechapel Crossrail project in London.

The Rugby-based company, part of Morgan Sindall Group, will work as a joint venture partner with Balfour Beatty and VINCI Construction.

The project was worth approximately £29m to Morgan Sindall, it announced today.

The scheme is split into three distinct parts comprising construction of the new Whitechapel Station in the existing Hammersmith and City and District Line cutting.

There is also a new station and bridge concourse in, and over, the East London Line cutting and a new ticket hall behind the retained building fronting on Whitechapel Road.

The works will also include the shafts and platforms for the Crossrail tunnels plus related architecture and mechanical and electrical infrastructure.

Morgan Sindall Professional Services, the group’s design and engineering consultancy which is part of its construction division, will be working with Balfour Beatty on the installation of the mechanical and electrics elements.

Work is due to commence in January and be completed in 2018.

Group chief executive Paul Smith said: “This is another important contract win for us on the Crossrail development demonstrating our expanded offering in the key growth sector of rail.”
