Weekly newspaper closes to boost sister titles

A FREE weekly newspaper has ceased publication in a bid to improve the lot of its sister titles.

The current edition of the Ludlow Journal, which is owned by the Midland News Association, is the last to roll of the presses.

In a statement posted online, the company wrote: “From next week the South Shropshire Journal will also be taking over the role of its sister newspaper, the Ludlow Journal.

“This week’s edition of the Ludlow Journal is the last, as it is ceasing publication as part of a major restructuring plan to boost both the South Shropshire Journal and sister evening paper, the Shropshire Star.

“The South Shropshire Journal will continue to bring you the unrivalled coverage you have come to expect…..providing an even better showcase for our loyal advertisers.”

All the titles are run from the same office in Broad Street, Ludlow.

The Midland News Association owns a host of weekly newspapers across Shropshire, Mid Wales and the West Midlands region along with the daily Express & Star, the biggest-selling regional evening newspaper in the UK.
