Woodhead brings green expertise to LEP

E.ON boss Michael Woodhead has joined the board of the Coventry and Warwickshire Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP).

Woodhead, managing director of E.ON’s sustainable energy business, is now one of eight private sector directors on the 16-strong board. He replaces E.ON colleague Derek Parkin on the board.

Denys Shortt, chair of the LEP, said that Woodhead’s expertise in the green economy would be vital for the organisation.

“We see the low carbon agenda as key to the economic well-being of this area. Michael will bring senior industrial experience to the board but also a high level of expertise in this key sector,” he said.

“We had a very high calibre of candidate for the vacancy which I think says a great deal about the work of the LEP and the impact it has made in a very short time.”

Woodhead began his career in civil engineering after graduating from Aston University. He later became UK managing director for global water treatment firm Degremont before joining Mitie where he was responsible for the growth of its PFI business in education. He joined E.ON in 2009 as managing director of the firm’s sustainable energy business.

Coventry-based E.ON has been behind a number of schemes to promote low carbon living including electric motoring through the CABLED programme and the low carbon LED street lights, designed and built in the city, that use less electricity and provide better quality light.
