Taxi firm takeover leads to HQ investment

A STATE-of-the-art taxi headquarters is being created in Coventry after one of the city’s taxi firms snapped up a well-known rival.

Jhalman Singh, who owns Coventry Arena Taxis, has invested in a site on Lockhurst Lane to create new offices for his firm after completing a deal to buy Allens Taxis for an undisclosed sum.

Singh said: “Allens is a Coventry institution with an excellent reputation. Of course, I am keeping the name Allens Taxis and the famous 76 555555 number. Most people in Coventry when they think of taxis think of Allens and can sing the old radio jingle instantly.

“My dad used to work for Allens Taxis and he is still a cabbie now – he was always very proud to work for the family company and we intend to uphold their core traditional values and maintain the good reputation they have achieved over the last three quarters of a century.”

Local property consultancy Shortland Penn + Moore advised Coventry Arena Taxis on the development site investment.
