Redditch makes the Premier league

PREMIER Inn, the UK’s largest hotel chain, has secured planning permission for a new 80-bedroom hotel and Beefeater grill in Redditch.

The hotel is set to be built adjacent to Abbey Retail Park and Leisure Centre on an underused site known locally as ‘The Teardrop’, which was recently acquired from Redditch Borough Council. More than 60-jobs will be created on completion of the hotel and restaurant.

Mark Wright, partner of Birmingham-based Trebor Developments, the development manager on the site, said:  “We have considerable experience in the hotel sector and this has been of great value to Whitbread in this deal.

“This is great news for Redditch and is already helping us in progressing further initiatives in the town.”

Whitbread, Premier Inn’s parent company, has a target to increase the number of Premier Inn UK bedrooms from the current 47,000 to 65,000 by 2016.

Its head of acqusisitions John Bates said: “We’re growing nationally and the West Midlands is a key expansion area for us.”

Construction of the hotel and restaurant is expected to start later this year, with a completion date of early 2013.
