Jones Lang brought in on Branston Locks scheme

JONES Lang LaSalle has been instructed by Birmingham-based Nurton Developments to work on the planning of a multi-million pound ‘new community’ in Burton, which could result in the creation of 3,000 jobs.

The Branston Locks scheme will involve the building of 2,850 new homes and the development of 50 acres of employment land.

Peter Leaver a national director of the planning team at the Birmingham offices of Jones Lang LaSalle, said he believed the proposals will act as a good barometer on how strategic scale mixed-use development is received in the West Midlands over the next few years.

He said: “Whilst the Government has a clear pro-development agenda, particularly favouring proposals that will create jobs and stimulate the economy, its recently enacted Localism bill purposefully seeks greater local influence on plan making and decision taking.

“We are hopeful that the people of Burton will see the proposed development as a clear opportunity to deliver a new community, that will be truly sustainable and act as a positive influence on Burton’s future.”

Branston Locks will include a local centre featuring a food outlet, convenience stores, recreational facilities and a new community facility. Two primary schools, medical facilities, a library and an extra-care unit and/or a nursing home for the elderly would also be delivered.

Leaver added: “Jones Lang LaSalle has already had success in delivering strategic mixed use schemes in the West Midlands and is currently working on number of schemes in Bromsgrove, Blaby, Hinckley & Bosworth and Worcester.”

Following a public consultation, planning will be submitted in the summer and if approved, Branston Locks will be delivered over a ten to 15 year period.
