New Birmingham hotel to open in May confirms operator

BIRMINGHAM’S new £30m Hampton by Hilton hotel will officially open its doors to customers on May 1, operators have confirmed.

Work is now almost complete to convert the formerly derelict Cumberland House on Broad Street into the new 285-room hotel.

Each bedroom will be equipped with 32” flat-screen HDTVs, working desk facilities, en suite bathrooms and walk-in showers. The hotel will also offer free wi-fi throughout.

The hotel will be operated by Sanguine Hospitality Ltd, the company which developed the nearby Hotel Indigo, Marco Pierre White restaurant and theclubandspa at The Cube.

General manager, Elaine Grahame, said: “We want to create not only one of the world’s largest Hampton by Hilton locations, but also one of the best.

“Although we are still a few months away from opening, the hotel already looks in very good shape, which only increases the level of excitement among every member of staff.  We hope our guests will like what they see as much as we do.”

Development has been on-going since November 2010 to complete the £30m transformation and follows a government-backed Business Premises Renovation Allowance (BPRA) scheme founded by Downing Corporate Finance and Office Villages Ltd.
