Stoke Council to sell site to residential developers

STOKE-on-Trent City Council’s cabinet has agreed plans to negotiate the sale of a key site to create a residential development which will include accommodation for the elderly.
The Slater Street site in Middleport will – subject to full council approval – be sold to Sanctuary Group and developer ID4Living, part of the Seddon Group.
Sanctuary, a housing and care provider, is expected to deliver approximately 140 new properties in the area subject to obtaining planning permission for the development.
It will also offer care services as part of the package.
The project would see around £18m of private and public sector money invested in the canal-side location.
The proposals include an 80 unit development providing housing for older people and 62 family homes, with more than half for sale on the open market by developer ID4Living. The remainder will be available for rent through Sanctuary.
Councillor Ruth Rosenau, cabinet member for regeneration, planning and transportation said: “If the negotiations and the planning applications are successful this site will be regenerated to provide new, energy efficient homes.
“This is an exciting and ambitious development, providing housing for older people with identifiable needs and also addressing a shortfall in the city.”
