Anglo Holt completes Woolwich Travelodge in time for Games

ANGLO Holt Construction has completed a major hotel project in Lonon’s Woolwich area for Travelodge.

The West Bromwich-based company was awarded the £5.6mcontract by Powis Street Estates No.3 Limited to develop a 120-bedroom hotel in Powis Street, Woolwich.

The project involved a Grade II listed building – a former council building and headquarters for The Co-operative – being transformed into a hotel while retaining the property’s original features.

The 40-week project started in October 2011 and was completed this month.

Anglo Holt managing director Andy Elwell said: “This was a prestigious project which, with its Grade II listed status, presented challenges but we were able to complete the refurbishment on time and on budget.

“Hotel rooms in the capital are at a premium with the London Games about to begin so the recent completion of the Travelodge Woolwich project is perfect timing for visitors still seeking quality accommodation.”

The refurbishment deal extends the company’s successful 12-year partnership with Travelodge, which has seen it complete 54 hotels, with a further eight contracts currently in progress, worth a total of more than £200.5m.

Tony O’Brien, UK development director for Travelodge Hotels, said: “We are very pleased that Woolwich was completed on time, and within budget, ahead of the London games as the hotel is likely to be fully booked with people travelling to the capital this summer.”
