Sales director sails in to Haines Watts

ACCOUNTANCY firm Haines Watts, which specialises in advising and supporting owner-managed businesses, has appointed a sales director for its Birmingham, Worcester and Tamworth offices.

John Moore joins Haines Watts after four and a half years as a senior business development manager at RSM Tenon where he worked with owner managed, entrepreneurial businesses and individuals.

He has helped with a successful Dragons Den pitch to Deborah Meaden & Theo Paphetis and has also supported the “Inafishbowl” internet-based network of entrepreneurs. Moore is also an active member of BNI Sunrise, the business networking group in Birmingham, Solihull and Coventry.

Henry Briggs, senior partner of the Birmingham office of Haines Watts, said he is delighted that Moore had joined the firm.

“John brings with him a wealth of experience and enthusiasm and is well known on the entrepreneurial business circuit,” he said.

New tax consultant appointed at JW Hinks

BIRMINGHAM-based chartered accountants JW Hinks has appointed a new tax consultant.

Charlie Thompson has joined the Edgbaston firm after working in the South East.
He worked as an accounts and audit senior at Kingswood Chartered Accountants in central London for five years before moving to Haines Watts as a tax senior for a year.

Thompson specialises in tax advice and planning for individuals, especially those in the medical profession.

He is also experienced in advising companies regarding corporation tax, quarterly instalment payments and tax accounting.

Paul Jones, managing partner, said: “Charlie is an excellent addition to our tax team and comes with a wealth of experience from working at a central London firm.”

Grant Thornton invests in the talent of tomorrow

GRANT Thornton has welcomed 18 new trainees to its new Birmingham office at Colmore Plaza. The new intake represents an almost 100% increase over that of 2011.

The trainees join the accountancy and advisory firm from both school and university and will go onto study AAT, ACA and CIPFA examinations.

Dave Munton, regional managing partner for Grant Thornton, said: “In today’s environment, getting a job from school or university is a huge challenge and requires candidates to display energy, drive and passion.
