BAM gets East Midlands Airport gig

BAM Construction in the Midlands has been selected as preferred bidder for a £12m redevelopment of East Midlands Airport.

The contractor will build a new security hall and queuing space for the airport terminal, which will increase the size of the terminal by 1,375 sq m and remodel the retail area in the departure lounge.

BAM has begun enabling works, but the main construction phase takes place between January and December 2013. The contractor will carry out the major works while the airport continues operating as normal.

Tim McDermott, general manager at East Midlands Airport, said: ‘It is incredibly important to the airport that we work with a team that understands our requirements and also the industry in which we work.

“BAM Construction has a proven track record and experience when redeveloping an airport and we are looking forward to working closely with the team throughout the build.”

BAM is currently working on a number of projects in the Birmingham area including the Shirley Parkgate retail-led scheme, a student accommodation building at Aston University and Harborne Academy.
