Duckers and Diving: Coals to Newcastle

THIS week our hirsute hack reports on an intrepid ski team’s return to snowy Brum.
They surely didn’t really need to leave Birmingham … but stars of the sixth Corporate Ski Challenge are back from the slopes.
A diverse group of about 23 hard working souls went to the Austrian resort of Soll a couple of weeks ago for a four-day winter break.
The group included such characters as Tim Clay, chairman of Clay Rogers and Partners and organiser in chief, Mike Ward, Charles Cattaneo and Nicola Fleet-Milne. In the heady pre-banking crisis days the event had as many as 80 people going, with significant sponsorship and culminating in a slalom race.
However, Tim reports the event is gaining momentum again – presumably, going downhill is actually a good thing?
Numbers, he predicts, are set to increase next year (March 6-10) and anyone interested should contact Tim at timclay@clayrogers.com.
He tells me: “Once again misdemeanours were punished when the fines committee sat each night and several hundred euros were raised for a charity – yet to be decided upon.”
Sadly, what goes on tour stays on tour, and Tim refuses to name and shame the main offenders.
Pity.
But he reveals intriguingly: “It seems plans are afoot for Ward and Clay along with others to launch a much larger fund raising effort this year, involving the Demons of Tune, of which this will just be the start – so watch this space.”
The last gig by the Demons, the Birmingham business charity band, raised more than £30,000 for prostate cancer charities, but they have not played together since November and plan to come back with a bang!
Noisy bunch but well worth watching.
