Zeus Capital expands into Birmingham

CORPORATE finance and stockbroking firm Zeus Capital is establishing a Birmingham operation.
The Manchester-based firm – which also has a London operation – is basing itself at 3 Brindleyplace and will be operational from Monday.
The Birmingham operation will be headed up by Dominic King, well-known locally as he formerly worked for stockbroking group Albert E Sharp and was a founder member of another Birmingham stockbrokers, Arden Partners.
King, who has been in stockbroking for more than 20 years, also worked alongside the late industrialist and entrepreneur David Grove within his private equity vehicle, GIL Investments, before returning to Arden Partners to head its corporate broking operation.
He will be working closely with former London Stock Exchange and Williams de Broe man Ross Andrews, Tim Metcalfe and Dr Kevin Wilson – all of whom have spent a number of years working in Birmingham.
King said the Zeus team will be working closely together to identify and help businesses looking to take their business to the next level.
He said: “The opening of the office in Birmingham is the latest step in Zeus Capital’s strategic objective to build on its full service capability for clients. Zeus has access to a wide range of sources of capital from both institutional investors through to private equity and high net worth offices and individuals.
“This team has a very strong understanding of the markets and what investors are looking for. Zeus will be able to offer a highly skilled team who think ‘local, national and internationally’ and can guide entrepreneurial growing businesses in the region through any transaction process – with added skills in both London and Manchester to support the team.”
King says the decision was taken to launch a Birmingham operation now because the firm believes the region is in the rudest health that it has been for years.
The firm also believes there will be more interest in IPOs over the next 12 months. “The message we are hearing is it is getting busier,” he said.
King also believes there is a gap in the market between the investment banks and the small ‘boutiques’ for a firm offering a full suite of services.
Zeus currently employs 27. It has advised on more than £3bn worth of deals and completed more than 100 successful transactions.
