Accord-led partnership to build homes as part of £220m Government scheme

A MIDLANDS housing partnership is to build hundreds of new homes across the region as part of Government plans to deliver almost 14,000 new affordable homes outside London.
The Matrix Housing Partnership has been chosen as one of just 69 housing associations and developers to receive a share of £220 million to deliver new affordable housing.
Led by West Bromwich-based Accord Group, the partnership will build 366 new homes in Birmingham, Redditch, Sandwell, Coventry, East Staffordshire, South Derbyshire, Wychavon and Gloucester.
Work on the homes will start in March 2015 and will be completed by 2017.
The 366 new homes, for which Matrix has received £7m to build, will be in addition to 1,500 new homes that the partnership is already set to complete by 2015.
It is estimated that as many as 1,800 jobs could be created as part of the work as well as up to 40 apprenticeships.
Chris Handy, chair of the Matrix Housing Partnership Strategy Group, said: “Across the West Midlands region there are 180,000 people on waiting lists for affordable housing.
“It’s vital that we build more homes to meet this rising demand, which is why we are delighted to be one of just 69 housing associations in the UK to have secured this funding.
“We have a strong track record of building high-quality homes that regenerate neighborhoods and create jobs and we are proud to be playing our part in getting Britain building.”
The Matrix Housing Partnership is made up of the Accord Group, Rooftop, Trent & Dove, Trident Social Investment Group and Watmos Community Homes.
