Mobile Fun returns to profit and plans growth

BIRMINGHAM-based online retailer Mobile Fun has announced renewed sales growth and a return to profit for the year ending March 31, 2010.

The company said it had seen increased order volumes, resulting in sales above £7m – a 15% revenue increase from 2009, while pre-tax profits extended to more than £500,000, which compared to a loss of £17,000 in 2009.

Mobile Fun said it attributed its success to the growing demand for accessories for new mobile handsets and touch screen devices including the iPad, iPhone and Google Android-powered mobile phones.

Figures were also boosted by strong sales growth from the now profitable German MobileFun.de website, which opened in 2008 and now manages approximately 2,000 orders per month.

GearZap.com, the company’s iPad, netbook and laptop accessories website, saw a strong first year the firm said customers were attracted to its range of products and prompt delivery service.

Further growth of this site is planned during the next 12 months, as new products for the iPad and other mobile internet devices become available.

Anthony Cook, Mobile Fun’s founder and chairman, said: “The year’s results bear testimony to the fact that Mobile Fun is entering a new phase of profitable growth.
“Our strong customer proposition and leading market position has enabled the management team to capitalise quickly on exciting technology led market opportunities to deliver a robust set of results.”

Looking ahead, he said the firm expected the market to produce more in-demand mobile devices – with the iPad and iPhone setting the pace.

“Whichever devices are successful, Mobile Fun is positioned perfectly to provide a leading range of accessories and we anticipate a strong year ahead,” he added.

Mr Cook said the firm also planned to leverage its global supply chain and online marketing expertise to take advantage of new mobile device releases ahead of the competition.

“When coupled with the prospect of strong growth in European exports, 2011 is promising to be the best year yet for Mobile Fun,” he concluded.

Mobile Fun has offices in the UK, Germany and France and delivers products to 21 European countries.
