Squire Sanders raises more than £25,000 for Max Appeal

EMPLOYEES from the Birmingham office of law firm Squire Sanders have raised a record-breaking £25,753 for their 2013 adopted charity, Max Appeal.

Max Appeal is a Stourbridge-based charity which supports families affected by Di George Syndrome, VCFS and 22q11.2 deletion.

22q11.2 Deletion Syndrome is the most common of the rare disorders, affecting possibly 1 in 1,800 of the population. Missing genes on the 22nd chromosome causes birth defects affecting the heart, palate, immune system and brain.

During the course of the last 12 months, the office has held a wide variety of fundraising activities.  Major events included: A triple ascent of Mount Snowdon covering 22 miles in 14 hours – symbolic of Max Appeal’s focus on 22q deletion – and the hosting of a black tie dinner at Opus in Birmingham, where more than 100 clients and members of staff attended.

Paul Wootton of Max Appeal said: “We have been overwhelmed by the level of support from the staff at Squire Sanders, and the commitment shown by those participating in fund-raising events and their supporters.

“The money raised has increased our annual income from donations by 35% and will enable us to continue to increase awareness of this condition and enhance the services we can provide.”

PPDG helps donkey sanctuary carry the load

THE Donkey Sanctuary in Sutton Coldfield has been given a major boost to plans to improve play facilities for children with a donation of hundreds of pounds from workers at Pertemps People Development Group.

Staff from Birmingham-based employment and training specialist PPDG visited the centre to present their £300 contribution.

The funds were donated from the company’s payroll giving scheme, which allows employees to give money to UK registered charities.

Sue Brennan, manager of The Donkey Sanctuary Birmingham, said: “From everyone here at the centre we would like to thank Louise and everyone at Pertemps People Development Group for their kind donation.

“They have provided us with generous financial support so we can continue our wonderful work for the children and donkeys. The money they have donated will help us improve our outdoor play area.”
