Carillion JV selected for £100m highways scheme

SUPPORT service group Carillion has become the latest big name to join the roster of firms helping to maintain the Midlands’ roads network.

The Midlands Highway Alliance is a collaborative arrangement between 20 local authorities that gives its members standardised access to professional services organisations to work on various civil engineering and highway schemes.

Wolverhampton-based Carillion in joint venture with Lafarge Tarmac (50:50) has been selected as one of the contractors to deliver the Medium Schemes Framework 2, which has a total value of approximately £260m over a three-year period and an estimated value to the JV of £100m.  The alliance also has the option to extend the framework by a further year to June 2018.

The framework will include the delivery of a wide range of projects on behalf of the alliance partners, including the reconfiguration of highway layouts, the construction of road and bridgeworks, resurfacing and associated enabling works.

Carillion chief executive, Richard Howson, said: “Our appointment to this framework continues our strong work winning performance in 2014 and supports our view that the outlook in our selected sectors of the UK construction market continues to improve.  We look forward to working with the Alliance partner authorities to deliver important improvements to the highway network in the Midlands.”
