Stepnell secures £2.6m sports pavilion project at prep school

ONE of the country’s top prep schools, Summer Fields Oxford, has appointed Warwickshire builder Stepnell to construct a new £2.6m state-of-the-art multi-use sports pavilion.

Rugby-based Stepnell has started work on the distinctive two-storey steel-framed 1,050 sq m building, which will house modern changing rooms and cloakroom facilities, a spacious and adaptable ground-floor foyer and a large multi-purpose first-floor suite with spectators’ balcony overlooking the school grounds.

Design features include natural limestone external wall facing. Photovoltaic panels will be installed on the roof.

The Stepnell team, which has a strong track record in working in ‘live’ school environments, was awarded the scheme through a competitive tendering process.

Designed by architectural practice BBLB Corstorphine + Wright, the pavilion is set for completion in summer 2015.

Stepnell contracts manager Dave Mawby said: “This project will create a first-class modern multi-use sports pavilion which will further enhance Summer Fields’ excellent facilities. Our focus throughout the construction programme will be on working closely with Summer Fields to ensure minimum disruption to the daily life of the school.”
